There are many reasons why rave music has been so enduring: the happy vibes, the togetherness, the iconic venues and, of course, the kickin’ tunes. One classic that’s blown many a mind in the last 19 years — yeah, you read that right — is Darude’s Sandstorm. Arguably one of the most recognisable and stonking dance anthems ever crafted, it’s been a floor-filling classic for millions across the globe. Now, just when you thought it couldn’t get any more epic, Classical Trancelations in Concert is bringing a hundred and fifty musicians together, including The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, to play it in a two-hour extravaganza of dance music classics. Let there be house!

This year promises to be bigger and even more magical. Taking place this Saturday, the 29th September, at Helsinki’s Hartwall Arena — tickets are available here — Classical Trancelations will be the biggest indoor electronic dance music event in Finnish history. Besides Sandstrom, the audience of thousands will be treated to anthems by legends such as Daft Punk, Moby, Fatboy Slim, Eric Prydz, Faithless, Tiësto, Robert Miles, Guru Josh and, of course, Darude.

And if that weren’t tantalizing enough, the soloists gracing the stage will include Saara Aalto, Reino Nordin, Kasmir, Paleface and Marianna, joined by saxophonists Jukka Perko and Tapani Rinne, and actor Sami Uotila. This fantastic ensemble of musical talent will be complemented by a light-show sure to take you on a journey you’ll never forget.

  1. Little-known fact that the song was written and published in Finland, and that the official music video features scenes of Helsinki.

  2. This sounds amazing! It must have taken a lot of work, skills and determination to make this happen. Also, I feel old, is Sandstorm such a ‘vintage’ track already?! Ahh!
