The story behind Ink Tank

Ink Tank is the editorial magazine from Ink Tank Media — a Helsinki-based content studio founded by Joel Willans and Anna Maria Kurkijärvi-Willans.

Joel is an author and Creative Director who moved from Britain to Finland and found a country that confounds, delights and occasionally baffles in equal measure. He’s written about it ever since. Anna Maria is an author and copywriter, Finnish to the core, who brings the inside perspective that no expat can fake.

Together they run Ink Tank Media — and its best-known project, Very Finnish Problems, the social media brand that turned Finnish cultural quirks into a 1.3 million-follower community. Ink Tank is where they go long-form.
